Why You Should Remove WordPress Meta Generator Tag?

Displaying your WordPress version number is a security risk. This is exactly what the WordPress Meta Generator Tag does.

WordPress meta generator tag generates codes (or tags) for search engines to pick up your page titles and meta descriptions. While doing all this, it also displays your WordPress’ version number in the view page source.

You can check this for your website by clicking ctrl+u or by right-clicking and selecting “View Page Source”. For instance, this is how the meta generator tag displays the version number:

To protect your website from version targeted attacks, you must remove meta generator tags.
