Hi!
If you are seeing threat data of your firewall dashboard to be empty, then this note is for you. A few important things to note before we share an explanation of historic threat data showing empty:
- The firewall on your website is 100% working (unless ofcourse you’ve switched it off or un-installed)
- If you have scheduled malware scans, they are also. working as they should
- Every other setting should be in place as you had setup
Now, why is the threat data showing empty?
We deal with threat data of thousands of websites, this includes thousands and thousands of records being created every hour. This records include bad bots trying to attack websites, brute force attacks and other threats that firewall protects against. To give a context, last year these records were upwards of 31 million and expected to be upwards of 50 million this year.
As you would imagine, these records are stored in various databases from where they are displayed on your dashboard. Annually, we do ‘warehousing’ of these records to ensure our databases to not get massively loaded effecting load time of the dashboards for you. This is a standard practice with all solutions dealing with huge amounts of data.
Over the last couple of weeks, we noticed a massive spike in the incoming threats and fuzzing activity (basically hackers trying to probe websites for vulnerabilities. Though these attacks didn’t seem targeted at any particular customer or particular types of websites, but still they massively added to our threat data causing dashboard to display records slowly. When we realized a further spike in these attacks (possibly due to October being cyber security month and attackers trying their own games), we had to immediately warehouse our databases to ensure that loading isn’t effecting customers. Due to warehousing happening in advance (which usually happens in the last month of the year), you see last couple of weeks of data not available. We just got finished with the warehousing today (28th April).
How can I request the threat data for last two weeks?
First of all, apologies for the inconvenience caused. Now that you’ve read the explanation, hope you understand our rationale for doing this on priority. We’re happy to send across threat data in excel format your way, please feel free to raise a support request from the Support tab of your dashboard or simply email at help@getastra.com from the email registered with us.
